September has ended, and our favorite spooky season, Halloween, is creeping up! Here are a few good old ‘scary’ movies from our days of Disney Channel that may not make as much sense now as they did when we were nine.

  1. Spooky Buddies

You may not have had the best childhood if you haven’t at least heard of a Buddies movie. This Halloween edition to the franchise follows the five golden retriever pups and their discovery of a ghost dog, a no-good hound, and a warlock looking to install terror into their town.

  1. Halloweentown

This popular franchise has been running for years since its 1998’s release. Marnie and her siblings are in for a big shock when they find out from their grandmother that they are witches. Not only that, but they also discover that they are powerful beings who must save not only Halloweentown but the entire world from an evil force. You can even check out its many sequels when you’re finished.

  1. Twitches

Imagine finding out you have a twin sister, magical powers, and an entire kingdom to save? What a crazy 21st birthday, huh? Just wait for the second movie–things get even more deep there.

  1. The Nightmare before Christmas

Two holidays in one! Jack the Pumpkin King is tired of Halloween, but when he travels to Christmas Town, amazed by the color and festivities, King Jack Skellington plots to take over, but things don’t go exactly according to plan. This fun movie will keep all ages entertained.

  1. Girl vs. Monster

Although coming out a little later than some of these in 2012, any Disney channel fan will love Girl vs. Monster. In the exciting movie, Skylar could never believe her overbearing and protective parents as skilled monster hunters. When monsters run loose in her town, however, she has no choice but to embrace her roots and save not only her friends and family, but the entire town.

  1. The Addams Family

Any version of this hilariously strange family movie will keep you occupied a few hours, and there are so many to choose from. With the animated version’s soon-to-be release, you’ll have much thrill in visiting older versions. Whether it be the very first, the spin-offs, or even the TV show, all provide exciting entertainment!

  1. ParaNorman

Most people can’t see ghost, but Norman isn’t most people. This child finds it easier to speak to the dead than the living, shockingly. When informed of a century’s year-old curse by a young witch, Norman must put his abilities to the test as zombies rise from their graves.

  1. Coraline

My name is not Caroline! It’s Coraline! This book-to-movie story is considered borderline not- for -kids because of its dark themes. But the gorgeous stop motion animation makes up for this, especially on the eyes. Following young Coraline Jones, we learn about the Other World in which your Other Mother is waiting. She’ll love you and hug you, make you food, and tell you stories. What’s bad about that?  Besides having buttons sewed over your eyes and getting you soul captured, not much. Sounds creepy, doesn’t it?

And those are our nostalgia-inducing films for this Halloween; now settle down with some popcorn and candy to set the mood!
