Star Wars fans at CHS are looking forward to the Dec. 15 release of the latest installment of the 40-year-old series, in particular to find out the fate of their favorite characters who were left in cliffhanger positions at the end of the last film.

Among the questions about The Last Jedi

-Will Luke be willing to train Ray… and are those two related somehow?

-Who exactly is Snoke?

-Is Han Solo really dead? (Probably, but you never know…)

-Will Kylo Ren remain on the dark side?

There’s a lot to look forward to and a lot to be nervous about, the fans say.

Several of the students said they don’t want the filmmakers to try to add drama and surprise just by turning good characters evil or vice versa. Those kind of flips are the subject of a lot of fan discussion.

“I don’t want to see Kylo Ren turn back to the light side, I think he’s good as a villain,” junior Bernie Warchal said.

Junior Graham Seechuk has a different opinion.

“I don’t want to see Rey to turn to the dark side,” said  Seechuk.

They also want to see some of the loose ends of the previous movie tied up.

“In the next movie, I hope I discover who Rey’s parents are, who Snoke is, and see more of Luke,” said senior Zach Ratliff.

Junior Lydia Newman also hopes to see the characters develop more.

“I hope to see Finn’s character develop and see Rey get trained by Skywalker,” stated Newman.

CHS students say they hope the filmmakers stay true to the overall Star Wars story, rather than just going to for cheap fan-pleasing moments.

“I do not want to just see them make Snoke someone else because the fans want it,” Warchal said. “I don’t want him to be Plagieus because the fans want it; I would want to see it because it makes sense.”

Junior Lucas Huie expresses hope in a balanced storyline with the characters.

Huie added, “I want see the introduction of both old and new characters without it feeling like I’m going through the greatest hits collection.”
