Clubs are very important organizations to join because they help students to support or develop an interest, as well as provide opportunities for students to make friends, meet new people, and try new opportunities. Sometimes, clubs can even help a student to conquer the fear of joining a club for the first time. It`s good to try a new activity, whether it is to make friends, learn about different cultures, or, most exciting, to go on stage

There are many types of clubs:

  1. Service-clubs that help the community and its people, such as:
  • Best Buddies-create one-to-one friendships w/ FALS students
  • Green Club- promotes environmental awareness
  • Students Sharing Coalition-help the homeless and low-income families through service projects (Catonsville Emergency shelter, food drives, a tutoring program, and donation programs)
  • Pen in A Box-Helps donate school supplies, used or unused, to students in third world countries all over the world (students don`t have to join to donate, though)

Special Interest clubs can help try out the things you are interested in, such as:

  •  Theater and musical drama clubs-make new friends-learn how to act, and perform in the Fall Drama and Spring Musical in front of a big audience. Build confidence, skills, and ability to work w/ others. Find other students with an interest in musicals.
  • Comic Book Club-share your love of comic books and associated movies
  • Inklings-a book club including guest talks from professional authors, discussions of favorite stories and poems, and field trips to local schools for service projects
  • Stage Crew-create sets for the Fall Drama and Spring Musical while learning about construction, sound, lightning, and painting
  • Gaming Club-focus on video and card games
  • Film Club-compose scripts, and create, record, and watch original productions
  • Dance Team-become more confident through dancing
  • Computer Club-students interested in computers, computer games, internet, and/or programming can focus on both computer software and hardware
  • Cosmos and Wandas-students with an interest in cosmetics can learn to do others’ hair and make-up while practicing cosmetics skills

Clubs can even have competitions, such as:

  • Chess Club-learn to play chess and participate in tournaments
  •  Speech and Debate Club-competes in tournaments in speech and debate
  • Dungeons and Dragons-play a creative role-playing game played with paper, pencil, and dice
  • Super Smash Club-a group of students that get together to play Super Smash Brother Nintendo games
  • Robotics-learn to use the VEX Robotics Platform and compete in various competitions

If you want to learn about more clubs to join, the Catonsville High School Clubs and Organizations packet is in the office. Students are also encouraged to create their own clubs. All that is needed is a meeting place, a teacher sponsor, and administrative approval.
