Mockingjay Pt.2 Great Conclusion to Film Series

After March of 2012 we have been watching the change in Panem through the eyes of a young rebel. The finale of the book to movie phenomenon The Hunger Games, Mockingjay came flying into theaters everywhere last November. These movies and books follow a teenage girl, Katniss Everdeen, when she starts rebelling against their government, the Capitol, with the help of fellow rebels.

Returning cast members are Jennifer Lawrence [Katniss Everdeen], Josh Hutcherson [Peeta Mellark], Liam Hemsworth [Gale Hawthorne], Donald Sutherland [President Snow], and Woody Harrelson [Haymitch Abernathy].

All movies have been very true to the books, which is always a great thing for avid book readers. The movies put in as much of the book as they could without making a 5-hour movie. However, of all the movies, this one was the farthest from the book-truth, which was definitely disappointing. Minor details were changed and characters left out, but even with those missing, the movie was way better than some other book-to-movie films. For the most part, the producers did a very good job keeping the plot true to the books.

Adding interest to the plot, the ongoing love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale causes the tension to rise even higher when the characters are placed in stressful situations. When there is a dark part of the movie, it is nice to have some relief when there is a scene between one of the two love birds.

The love triangle also causes tension between viewers. Team Peeta or Team Gale has become a huge part of the movies. Viewers argue over who they want Katniss to end up with: Peeta or Gale. Peeta is perceived as the sweet, loving, opposites-attract sorta partner for Katniss, while Gale is the strong, manly, childhood-friend kinda guy. This dispute makes watching even more fun because you get to battle with your friends about who’s better.

Towards the end of the movie, there was a plot twist, that to a clueless viewer was very surprising. The change of feelings towards a few of the characters added to the stress of previous events and currents ones, added to the story, and made it more relatable, showing not everyone’s motives are the same.

As the movie ended, viewers had to realize the sad reality that this was the last of the series. It sure did break the hearts of those passionate Hunger Games fans, and sparked some discussions about how the ending should have gone.

Team Peeta and Team Gale members sure did have a controversy as one of the two men had heartbreak and the other had tremendous joy. The inclusion of an epilogue summed up the love triangle and gave clarity to the future of the characters.

Personally, I think the epilogue was necessary to prevent viewers from causing a fit about what happened in the future. The scene made clear the actual ending and how the rebellion concluded. Viewers got their answer.

This movie was a great conclusion to the series while also sticking with the book. It gave sufficient answers to all of the plotline problems while also touching the hearts of the many viewers. This movie will be out in theatres for a quite while longer before it comes out on DVD so go out and see it! May the odds be ever in your favor!
