Comet lacrosse defender Gunnar Cheuvront has verbally committed to Loyola University (MD). The Catonsville High School player had 45 takeaways and 55 groundballs last year. He also received offers from Richmond, Penn and UMBC.

He is the 2nd Catonsville player in the first week of December to commit, along with Ian Callahan who committed to York College in Pennsylvania. He will join fellow Looney Lacrosse players, Seth Higgens (St.Paul’s) and Danny Scott (Trinity PA) at Loyola.

When asked about why he chose Loyola, he said “I did an overnight at Loyola, and it just felt right. It felt like I didn’t need to visit anywhere else. I just felt like I fit in with the guys.”

Chevuront has said he’s talked to the coaches a lot. He describes them as “outgoing and nice, but very serious and experienced. ”

The Greyhounds won the 2012 national title and are located in Baltimore City near Roland Park. They are ranked 12th preseason by the Baltimore Post this season.

Cheuvront says his goals are “to win a national championship and play in the MLL or PLL after college. If not, I want to go into the business field.”
